How to cut wood panels for a desk?

Hi all,

I currently have a desk project I'm trying to figure out, but all the panels sold at Bunnings are too big for my space. I don't have the space to do the project at home and am trying to do it in one day at someone else's house if it is possible. My friend says it is possible to get the panels cut down in store, since I need them  100cm long at most, but won't that ruin the fact they're sealed? If so, how easy/quick would it be to reseal it?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @joopsc64. It's excellent to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about cutting wood panels.

Many of our timber panel products come with a sealer on them. Typically the sealer is designed to stop the timber from distorting from changes in humidity whilst in transport and storage. When you've acclimatised the panel according to the instructions, you should then seal it again. So, whether you have the panel cut or not, you'll need to look at sealing the panel. Generally, you'd use something like a Kaboodle 750ml Clear Hardwax Oil.

The resealing process is extremely quick and easy. Simply apply a couple of coats of it to your panel for a water-repellant and protective finish.
