How to repair a chipped and cracked porcelain pedestal?

l have a chipped/ cracked porcelain section on a pedestal which occurred when moving the basin to fix leaking section @ back of basin which rests on top of pedestal.

What materials/ procedure would u recommend for me to fix this damage?

I’m a first time D.I.Y. customer. Can u help me out as I would like to get this repair job done .I will forward a photo of this problem.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @anneelizabeth8. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a sink.

I see you've already glued the pieces back into the area they came out. I know it can be difficult to glue the pieces in the correct position, but there seems to be room for improvement. The pieces seem to be misaligned, and I'd say that has to do with too much glue being used in the damaged area. I've done this myself several times before; sometimes, less is more when it comes to glueing. The thickness of the glue has prevented the chips from setting back into their exact position.

Would you be able to remove the pieces and try again with less glue? All the current glue will need to be removed to provide a fresh surface. If you are able to get the chips to sit flush with the surrounding area, then we could look at using epoxy filler to fill the remaining voids.

Unfortunately, this looks like it would be a case of needing to move back before we can move forward.

How outdated is this porcelain basin? If it's time for an update, you might like to consider replacing the whole vanity with a new version. I recently replaced my cracked porcelain basin with an Estilo 600mm Vanity With Semi-Recessed Basin With 1 Tap Hole. It's so much easier to clean and was a great investment, especially since we garnered under-sink storage space.

I'm terrible with super glue - I keep feeling if one drop is super then more drops must be super duper.

To my eyes @anneelizabeth8 you've done a good job with 1 and 2, but 3 looks like the wrong shape for the spot - but I'm not good with jigsaw puzzles.

And there is a shattered crater shared by 1 and 2 that looks like a human acetabulum.

Stupid thought maybe, but is the pedestal perfectly symmetrical? Can you turn it 180 degrees? Outta sight outta mind? Another dumb thought - a steel patterned/ornate 'clerical collar' that fits around the top covering the shattered area and painted to match the present colour?
