hi Everyone, new to the forum. was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to tell if a wall is structural or not WITHOUT having to get up into the ceiling manhole to have a look...
Hi @recon13,
Welcome to Workshop. It's great to have you as one of our latest members. I trust you will receive lots of helpful advice and inspiration for your projects from our community members.
I have tagged @BIM_Engineer for you as he is likely to have some good advice about your home. What do you have planned?
Jason
Hi @recon13Firstly, determine what type of roof structure you haveTry Using a broom to lift the manhole cover up , if its too dark to see, attach/tape mobile phone to another broom with torch and video turned onReview Video for Roof frame typeTruss Roof Very High possibilty Internal walls are non-load bearing
pitched rafters , under purlins and struts Hgh possibility that the internal wall will support a Strut/Strutting Beam and is load bearing
Raked Rafters/Ceiling very Hgh possibility that the internal wall is load bearing
Finally, the only way to be 100% sure is to get a photo of the wall from within the roof and upload .BTW, Photos of the roof from above also sometimes helps ...try google Google satellite Maps hth
It would be good to see what you are planning @recon13. Do you have any plans or sketches you can share?
Hope all is well.
Just checking in to see whether you worked out whether it was a structural wall or not? Let us know if you need a hand with anything.
