How to attach new stairs to veranda?

Hi everyone.

I need to replace some temporary steps added by our builder at the front of our veranda. I am after some advice on the best way to go about this. I have attached a few photos below.

They are currently on steel stringers, which are pulling away from the concrete. The wall plugs have either broken or are coming out of the wall. 
I would like to have 3 steps, with the top step at the same height as the veranda. 
I am open to all suggestions on what would look good or ways to go about this. 
What I’m mostly not sure about is attaching the stairs to the veranda. From what I understand, you shouldn’t attach the wood directly to masonry because it doesn’t allow for any airflow. Do I dig stumps into the ground and essentially build the steps away from the wall and not join them? Are stringers the way to go, or are box steps a better solution here?

Isolating the stairs from the dwelling is a good choice; having them independent and able to support themselves will prevent potential issues in the future. Instead of directly connecting the timber to the house, you can isolate it with plastic packers. Alternatively, a spacing nut can be added to your fixings to provide a gap between the timber and the house.

For your proposed look, installing posts to create box stairs would be the way to go. Stringers wouldn't lend themselves well to creating the box stair look you are going for; they're for the look you currently have. Ultimately, the choice between stringers and box steps depends on your aesthetic preferences.
