How to paint new Hume doors?

Hello, I have gotten a Hume door installed and when it came to the painting stage I’m having some trouble. I primed with Zinsser and painted with taubmans exterior paint. The paint is peeling like a plastic protector 😩. What am I doing wrong? Should I strip and sand? Thank you

I'm so sorry to hear you've experienced this issue.

Just to confirm, from the colour, it looks like the coating on the door. Are we looking at the Zinnser primer under the peeled section? I would have thought the Zinsser primer would be white, not a greenish colour like the Duracote finish on a Hume External Door. Now that I'm taking a second look, I suspect the white Zinsser primer has just absorbed some of the colourant from your top coat. In that case, we can tell it's bonded well, and I suspect the issue is because you've used a soft exterior paint. For a door, I'd typically recommend an enamel paint that is far more robust, like Dulux Aquanamel or an oil-based enamel. Any type of knock or scrape on the door will damage the soft exterior paint and cause it to peel.

How long was the topcoat on there before it received the knocks and damage? If it was only on the for less than a few days, it might not have cured yet, which could also lead to this issue.

Unfortunately, as the topcoat you've used hasn't bonded well to the primer or is too soft for the application, it will need to be sanded off. I'd recommend sticking with the same system of paints, so if there are any further issues, that company can troubleshoot them. If you were to use the Dulux Aquanamel, then I'd recommend sanding back the Zinsser primer too. The Dulux One Step would be the compatible primer.
