Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Ric. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about decking screws.

I'd recommend going for a 12G self-drilling screw such as the Simpson Strong-Tie 12G (5.5mm) x 50mm 316 Stainless Steel DHSD No-PreDrill Hardwood To Softwood Decking Screws, which will help prevent screws from snapping due to their extra thickness and save you time as you won't need to pre-drill. They are suitable for hardwood decking and joists.
