How to install extra cabinets?

I have a very large breakfast table which was at some point added to my kitchen. I'm looking to fill in this area with more cabinets and then replace all the door + drawer fronts, handles along with a respray of the cabinetry and replace the whole benchtop.

Does anyone know where I should start? Here is a photo of the current kitchen. Looking for a cheap, ideally DIY (or as much as possible) remodel.

Revamping a kitchen sounds like a fair bit of fun! I know that Bunnings offer a service where you get a consultant to come out and plan withyou about your kitchen Kitchen Design Consult $49 online and $100 at home.

I have installed a Kaboodle kitchen before and found it resonably easy. Adding to your kitchen would bring about a whole new feel.

Id suggest to take a wander into your bunnings store and have a look at the kitchens they showcase. Actually seeing and feeling how they look may change your wants. I know they have lists of tradespeople who will install your kitchen if you do not have the time or knowledge. (My mum did it this way and the kitchen turned out nicely)

For respraying cabinets I would check to see what surfaces the old one sare and then hit up the paint crews on how to paint them. You may nee da primer of some kind depending on the surface.

New handles ect will potentially require new holes in the doors, so whatever you are going to paint your door with needs to be able to cover the old holes (filler) so wont be seen (I am thinking of the transparancy of the paint)

My last suggestion is once you have had a wander, grab a sketch book and draw up a few options of ideas, they dont have to be final ideas but will really narrow down what you like and what will fit into the space. Bunnings also have some very nice benchtops 🙂

Thanks Dave, last time I spoke with someone in Bunnings about Kaboodle they told me trying to retrofit a kitchen was a waste of time and that I'd be better off ripping out and starting over. Is that not the case?

It really depends on what you want and how matching you can get the new to the old. If your doors are dated then trying to match them to a new model may be problematic. You could meausure an existing door or take one in with you to see how it looks next to a display cabinet. If it matches you can always replaec all doors. Just depends on how much money you want to spend.

A Cupboard carcuss is just that, you get to move it around and configure what you want., matching it with what you have close enough... Well 🙂

You could go for something that matches teh whole kitchen but is different? I am just thinking of your prefernce for something cheap and DIY.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's marvellous to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your kitchen.

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @Dave-1. I agree with his recommendations, replacing doors is possible, but it is often an expensive exercise as the doors you have now are probably not compatible with the new cabinet doors available. This in turn means that you'll need to get custom cut doors which will eat into your budget.

Looking at your kitchen doors, they still appear to be in good condition. Have you thought about painting them to get a fresh new look? Here is an excellent example of a refurbished kitchen using paint - Budget kitchen refurbishment using paint by @Shirld.

If you are curious as to how much a new kitchen will cost, I suggest calling your local store and booking a site visit by the mobile kitchen specialist. Please note that this is a paid service, and you will get a thorough quote from demolition to re-installation.

In regards to a new kitchen, I propose working within your budget, and the best way to do that is to get a quote. Once you have more information about your project, the more you'll be able to make an informed decision.
