Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your door handle.
Inside the door handle itself is a return spring that pushes the handle back into its original position. If both sides are now drooping, it's safe to conclude that the springs have deteriorated and are no longer pushing the handles back into place. Even if you were to reposition the springs, they will no longer have their return strength.
I suggest removing your door handle including the latch set and bringing it to the store so that you can compare it with a replacement set. Once you find a compatible set re-install it into your door.
