How to add wardrobe doors?

Hi,

Ive purchased my first apartment and I’m looking to do some budget-friendly renovations when I move in March. Currently there are tenants so limited access. There are no wardrobe doors on the built-in cupboards and I’m looking for suggestions on how to attach some. I’d also like to pull on the bottom base drawers that aren’t function but concerned it would ruin the supporting structure of the shelf.

Ideally I’d prefer not to have sliding doors and can’t have doors that are too large as the rooms are quite small. The measurements are approximately 1900 x 2200.

Since you are not keen on sliding doors, I propose using bifold tracked doors. The tracking will prevent the doors from swinging away and hitting your wall or other people. I've placed a sample image below to give you an idea of how it can be done.

Thanks for your reply. Do bifold doors need extra space inside the cupboard to work? As the shelves and supports are sitting fairly flush with the cupboard opening. Would these have to be removed?

Hi @rochelle-km,

You could mount this system proud of the wall if the shelving comes flush with the cupboard opening. Basically, any door that can't be recessed within the cabinet would need to be proud of it. You could install these bi-folds proud, by having the track system on the face of the wall instead of inside the cabinet. However, unless you build a frame around the proud door on the face of the wall, you'll end up seeing the edge of the door when closed, and this might not give you the most polished look.

You might like to consider, adjusting the shelving so the doors can sit within the opening.
