How to seal cornice and wall gap?

Hi, can somebody please give me some advice? My living room ceiling, where the cornice meets the wall, which is exposed brick, has a gap between it. The gap goes up into the roof cavity. I want to seal it off as dust, dirt and whatever else from within the ceiling comes down through it. I was thinking of running some sort of gap filler along the gap, but unsure what one is appropriate to use. I don't want it to damage the cornice and or paint, or shift and crack from wind/house movement. The gap on one side of the room is fairly large. I have attached some photos. Any assistance and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

You can use a flexible gap filler such as this Selleys No More Gaps Interior Multipurpose Gap Filler to seal the gap. It won't damage the cornice or paint, so there are no worries on that front.

Depending on the width of the gaps, it may be worth using some Gap Filler Rod before applying the No More Gaps, so you don't need to use as much. This would be worthwhile where the vertical mortar joints in the brick are.

@JacobZ advice is great I would like to add as a chime in.

DO USE masking tape along the brick wall to caulk too as even a pro caulker will have difficulty getting a neat bead of no more gaps along that edge.

Clean any messes with water a on a white rag. A tooth brush maybe is useful dipped in water to help clean any brick face messes.

Maybe just using a white gap filler rod is enough to seal the crack as it is quite large and is going to be a whole lot less messy.

Great idea sealing the gap and stopping dirt etc and heat/cold loses and insect invasions. I highly recommend people seal their skirting boards too to the wall and the floor.

@Jewelleryrescue Yes, very true. The heat/cold loss is something I failed to mention. Same for insects. They've been a menace this month.
