How to build a ground level deck?

I would like to build a ground level deck in my garden under a couple of trees.

I have leveled the ground and I am trying to work out the timber that I should use for this project.

Am I able to use the Bunnings 200 x 50 sleepers for the bearers? I am reading in a previous post that 90 x 90 F7 posts are the go, Is there something else that can be used for the posts or is the F7 post the best option?

I am looking at only having the deck between 100mm and 150mm above the ground.

What is an ideal spacing that I should be using for the bearers as I am not sure yet what timber I will be using for the decking boards.

I would appreciate any advice that anyone here might be able to provide.

For your ground-level deck, it's important to use timber that's structurally rated for the specific purpose. Sleepers are not structurally rated and should not be used as bearers, as they may not offer the necessary support over time. Instead, you should use H3-treated Pine for the bearers, which is appropriately treated for outdoor conditions and provides the necessary strength. For the posts, H4-treated F7 structurally rated posts are a great option, as they offer excellent durability and strength for supporting the deck structure. Alternatively, adjustable pedestal feet on concrete pavers can be used as a solution if you want to avoid digging into the ground.

It sounds like you're referring to joists when mentioning bearers. Joists are typically made from 90 x 45mm H3-treated timber or larger, spaced at 450mm centres across the deck's span. These joists are supported every 1000mm by the posts or feet. 

A deck between 100mm and 150mm above the ground is ideal for ventilation, but make sure that you leave enough space underneath for airflow to avoid moisture buildup.
