Need ideas for pergola floor

My good friend recently installed a simple pergola for me to grow my passion fruit & pumpkin. I like to have a dry neat & tidy floor so that I can put some potted plants around to make it more pretty. Kindly give me some ideas what to

do with the pergola floor please! Thank you! Much appreciated.

Hi @shentan

The easiest and neat solution is to place outdoor stone or concrete 40mm thick pavers on to level ground between your plants loose uncemented.

Just sitting loose will allow water the get to other plants root, and it will allow you to move the pavers around for any in ground plant additions later.

Smaller pavers will fit around existing plants and structure easier.

No need to compact the ground top as this might impact existing plant root systems.

I agree with @Jewelleryrescue that adding loose pavers between the plants would likely be the best option for keeping the floor neat and dry. You could also consider using pebbles, which would look attractive and tidy, but keep in mind that weeds can grow through the pebbles, which might be a bit of a task to control over time. Additionally, any more permanent solution, like pouring concrete, could affect the ability of moisture to reach the plant roots, so it’s better to stick with something that allows for drainage and flexibility. The loose pavers seem like the easiest and most practical option, and they will also let you move them around if you want to make changes later on.
