How do I insulate external single brick wall?

Hello, I have a home that was built in the early 1900's. Rendered brick. The side walls are only single brick & the home gets very cold in winter & very warm in summer. I am looking for a product that I can attach to the external wall's to insulate the home.

Can you help.

The best approach might be to attach rigid foam insulation boards, such as extruded polystyrene (XPS), directly to the brick surface. XPS is a great option due to its high moisture resistance and durability.

Once the insulation boards are secured using construction adhesive or masonry anchors, they should be covered with a protective cladding layer. Fibre cement sheets are a popular choice as they are durable and can be rendered for a seamless finish. They also come in grooved cladding to imitate a tongue and groove board.

To ensure the insulation performs well over time, it’s important to seal all joints with an appropriate sealant and consider installing a breathable vapour barrier between the insulation and cladding. This helps prevent moisture ingress while allowing trapped vapour to escape, reducing the risk of damp issues. 

You'll likely need to attach timber batons to the wall, which the fibre cement cladding can be fixed onto.
