How to attach ledger board to masonry filled block with chemical?

Hi Team,

I am building my new deck (500mm from the ground) and need to attach the ledger board (or stringer that will support one end of the joists) to the house masonry block foundation. The blocks are filled with concrete. I will use 12mm SS threaded rods embedded into the blocks at least 110mm, however, I am not sure what anchoring adhesive to use, there are so many options and I am a bit lost. The concrete and blocks are uncracked and dry, the house was built in the 70s.

All of them seem to be structural and capable of the job, but not sure which one to choose

Since your house has uncracked, dry, filled masonry blocks and you're embedding 12mm stainless steel threaded rods at least 110mm deep, you need a high-strength structural anchoring adhesive suitable for solid concrete and masonry. The good news is that all three options you’ve listed—Sika AnchorFix-3001, Ramset Chemset 101, and DeWalt Pure500 Plus—are strong enough for the job.

Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:

Sika AnchorFix-3001 – A high-performance, epoxy-based anchoring adhesive designed for both cracked and uncracked concrete. It has excellent bond strength, is moisture-resistant, and is commonly used for heavy-duty applications. It has a longer curing time than some other options, which allows more working time but also means you’ll need to wait longer before applying loads.
Ramset Chemset 101 – A styrene-free vinyl ester anchoring adhesive that cures much faster than epoxy-based products. It’s also rated for solid and hollow masonry and has high chemical resistance. If you want a quicker set time, this would be a good option.
DeWalt Pure500 Plus – A pure epoxy-based chemical anchor, similar to Sika AnchorFix-3001, with excellent long-term durability and high bond strength. It's widely used for structural applications but has a longer curing time compared to vinyl ester products.

Between the three items Ramset Chemset has the fastest drying time, but the other two take much longer to cure. Among the three only DeWalt and Ramset have dedicated anchor screws. All of these products are more than capable of securely anchoring your ledger board, so it mostly comes down to how quickly you need it to set and personal brand preference. If time is of the essence, then I would recommend Ramset Chemset.

Please note that if you have a certified plan by an engineer, they will sometimes indicate what screws and adhesive. to use.

Id also like to offer a warm welcome to the Bunnings community 🙂 Ive used ramset anchoring before and it hasnt failed when I have been securing rods like yours.

It looks like you have thought your steps through in how to build your deck. I would normaly be hessitant about attaching ledger boards to a house for a deck. A deck should be stable enough without needing a ledger board to keep it solid. Also if its the ledger board keeping it stable that is a lot of strain on that fixed point.

I think it would eb a great project to post, there is a resonable amount of discussion on ledger boards and having a project showing them would be nice to refer to 🙂 Please take a bunch of photos, never too many photos as the help out down the track when you wonder why you did it that way.
