How to remove balcony carpet?

My balcony has an outdoor carpet glued firmly to the floor. The glue has left thick residue when i tried to pull the carpet out. 

I have plants and gardening materials stored. It's not fun to clean the carpet especially removing the soil and dried leaves. I would like to remove the carpet and replace with something that's low maintenance. 

Any ideas on how to remove the sticky residue easily??

Unfortunately, there’s rarely an easy method for removing that kind of stubborn adhesive, especially if it’s been exposed to the elements. You can try using an adhesive remover and work it into a small section at a time. Let it sit for the recommended time, then use a heavy-duty floor scraper to lift the residue. It can be slow going, but it’s effective with a bit of elbow grease.

Once it’s all cleaned up, you might consider replacing the carpet with decking tiles — they’re much lower maintenance and easy to remove or rinse clean if needed. They'll also conveniently cover any residue glue or stains on the concrete.
