How to fix a sagging picket gate?

Hi team,

I’m looking for some advice on how to fix a sagging picket gate. The issue seems to be with the post that’s connected to the wall — the top and middle bolts have started coming out, and the gate is now sagging and difficult to close properly.

What’s the best way to secure the post back to the wall? Should I use longer or heavier-duty screws, or is there a better anchoring method? Any recommendations on products or techniques would be a huge help.

For a long-lasting anchor, I propose using a chemical-based anchor that will bond with the bricks and is impervious to the weather.

I propose using the following products to firmly anchor your gate post to your brick wall.

Ramset 300ml Chemset UltraFix Plus
Ramset Multifit Sieve - 4 Pack (for hollow bricks)
Ramset M8 x 110mm Galvanised Anchor Stud - 4 Pack

I am a novice with basic skills.
Do you reckon I keep the post and just take out the existing bolts and replace? Can you please suggest how to take the existing bolts out- eg what tools are required?

Hello @AKan

You'll need a few tools to remove the gate and post. I recommend looking into your tool box and see if you have a hex head bit a PH2 Philips bit and a cordless drill. That should be enough for you to remove the gate then uninstall the post off the wall.

In regards to the existing bolt, can you please post a picture of it so that we can see what it looks like. We can then make recommendations on what steps to take remove it.

Thank you for sharing that photo of your post. Yes, that is a hex nut, and you'll need to use a hex bit to remove it.
