How to install a cavity slider against loadbearing wall?

What would be the best method to install a 70mm Hume evolution cavity slider against (onto) an existing loadbearing wall? 

Would it be acceptable to drill straight through the cavity frame (left side of my picture) and then pack to the existing wall and just screw through to the existing studs?

There was previously an old J style sliding door but we need an external wall now. The loss of space into the room is not an issue as its only 82mm including the wall lining and is an easier solution to getting a registered builder to modify the loadbearing wall.

That approach can certainly work — fixing the cavity slider unit directly to the existing studs can be a practical solution, especially if you're trying to avoid modifying the load-bearing structure. Just ensure the cavity frame is securely anchored by screwing through it and packing out as needed, so it sits flush and plumb against the existing wall. 

You'll also need to install a header across the top of the opening to support the sliding track and allow for the door to operate smoothly when closed. Once everything is installed, you can enclose the unit in plasterboard for a clean finish.

Have you considered a barn door as an alternative? It’s a much simpler installation that doesn’t require wall modifications or enclosing the door cavity.
