How to fix edge pull sliding door handle?

I have a sliding door on my walk in wardrobe. It has edge pull door handle. For the size of the door, this handle always seems like taking extra load, not sure why it was installed like this.

Finally today morning, it broke at the edge and it seems like there is no fix for this.

Any solutions or suggestions for me to fix this or any alternatives? Rest of door is in perfect condition Don't want to replace door.

The screw in which the pull handle was anchored to has torn out a piece of your door. This section with the jagged edge and interior will need to be cut out and replaced with a solid timber piece from which you can screw the pull handle back on. The cut will need to be precise, and the repair piece must be perfect when installed back into the door. If it is too small, it will split when drilled into, if it is too big the pull handle will stick out.

I therefore suggest engaging the services of a handy person to rebuild that section of your sliding door. My only other suggestion is to check the rollers and door height of the sliding door. Generally speaking, your sliding door should be easy to move back and forth without great effort. If it appears that the door is heavy or difficult to move or scrapes or hangs onto something, odds are this is what it is causing it to be difficult. Once it has been addressed the door should be easy to use.

Im nodding at @EricL 's assement and trying to figure away around the issue so teh doors surface still looks nice and smooth afterwards.

It looks like whomever installed teh latch in the first place cut out a wedge instead of a hole and also have gone too far into the doors interior "fill" so there is nothing really solid to attach the door handle to. Hence your breakage.

I was thinking as a workaround using a different latch that is the same width but has securing holes top and bottom Rolltrak Stainless Steel Recessed Barn Door Handle It says its width is 53mm, your latch is ??mm wide?

I am thinking of a plate that covers the existying hole and then you glue in a piece that will fit the existing hole. It wont carry any structual weight. its just a piece filler. It may need to have a metal plate for any magnetic latching is all.

I would definently see if the track is clear and runs freely as well.

Hi @EricL

I also agree with @EricL and would suggest getting a local handy many to fill the square opening. There are a couple of ways this can be done. both somewhat time consuming. But the handyman can sort it for you.

Then have them install this type of sliding door handle which are less involved in the installation.
