How to repair damaged rendered wall?

Hi All,

Looking to get some advice on how to fix this. Looks to be a rendered wall with exposed brick. I believe its been exposed to the rain for quite sometime and therefore seems to have affected other area. Would like to get it covered up so the rain doesnt go through any further.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It looks like there is a metal bead that has been cut out in the centre of the damaged patch. You can see the rust running down on each side, which indicates there is rust-affected metal under the render.

To properly fix this issue, you would need to remove the rust-affected bead before carrying out any further repairs. You can do this with an angle grinder with a diamond cut-off wheel. Make a relief cut at the corner on each side and pull the bead out. Make sure you wear gloves, long protective clothing, eye and ear protection, closed shoes and a mask. As you are cutting a cement-based product, there will be airborne dust and particles that can be breathed in or hit you at high speed. Don't take any risks; wear your protective gear.

You will then have to widen and tidy up the section of bare render. This can once again be done with an angle grinder. Make two relief cuts to open up the render further

You will then tidy up the brick and the render with a wire brush to remove any loose material.

Now that everything is cut and tidied up, you'll want to install a new PVC External Render Trim. As this trim is PVC, it will not rust like the other one did. You can cut it to length with some good scissors or a pair of aviation snips.

To install the trim, you can use some Dunlop Multipurpose Acrylic Render, which you will also use to repair the render. Have a look at How To Render Corners for some guidance on how to fix the bead in place and tidy up the corner.

Once the render has been applied and dried, you can paint it to match the wall.
