How to cut acrylic sheets using circular saw?

Hello everyone!

I'm looking to cut an acrylic sheet to size for a little cabinet project. Just wondering if my 165mm Ryobi circular saw would work well if I slapped the "Diablo 165mm 60T Ultra Finish Circular Saw Blade" on it?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Short answer: Yes, your circular saw would cut your acrylic sheet with relative ease, and that blade wouldn't have any trouble. Just make sure you set your blade depth so the blade only just passes through the material. If it is set too deep, it can catch the material and crack it.

The one thing you should note is that if you were making a whole load of cuts, acrylic would blunt your blade much quicker than timber would. If you are just making 2-3 cuts, it won't have a huge effect, but if there are a lot of cuts needed, your blade will go blunt.

Depending on the thickness of the material, you could also try scoring the acrylic with a utility knife and snapping it. If the acrylic is relatively thin and you have a sharp blade, this can be an effective method.

Whatever method you use, please remember to wear personal protective equipment, including gloves and long protective clothing.
