What sealer for rendered solid plaster exterior wall?

Hi, we have an exterior concrete block wall that was rendered with solid plaster several months ago. We want to paint it and looking for advice on what to use to seal it. The advice I have received is to use Dulux PRECISION® Sealer Binder oil-based prepcoat (which it seals porous surfaces), but Bunnings does not appear to stock this, and I'd rather used water-based if possible. Would Dulux 1Step Prep Primer, Sealer & Undercoat work? Or what other sealer/primer available at Bunnings would be recommended?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Yes, the Dulux 1Step Prep Primer, Sealer & Undercoat would be suitable as a primer before applying your exterior paint.

You could also use the Dulux PRECISION Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer, which is a water-based version of the oil-based primer that you were recommended.

Further to the question above, for top coats if we have used Dulux 1st step primer to seal/prime a previously unpainted rendered wall, what is the best paint to use for top coats that Bunnings stocks? We are coastal. Will Dulux Weathershield work or is there another option recommended?

Hi @MikeyMike1,

Dulux Weathershield would be suitable. It is designed to resist the effects of all things you can reasonably expect in your location, such as constant weather changes, salt and UV.

It's also generally best to stick with the same brand as their products are formulated in a similar way and have been proven to work with each other.
