What garden screens for mobile art displays?

Hi Everyone

I am an artist just about to run a group art show. We have to bring in our own mobile display screens to an event space.
I like the idea of using the gorgeous garden screens but they need to be strong, portable and movable. Any ideas? And what products I could use

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @artbluemuffin. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating mobile art displays.

At 1800 mm high by 900 mm wide, those garden screens are fairly lightweight but could topple easily if there’s any wind. They’re not particularly self-supporting, so at a minimum you’d want to build a 42 × 19 mm pine baton frame for the back, then attach a pair of perpendicular legs out of 70 x 35mm pine at the bottom to keep them stable. The more chance there is of someone bumping into them, the longer you’ll want to make those legs — though keep in mind this can create a trip hazard on the floor.

Another option might be to have folding legs that swing out from behind when in use. These could be made in a U-shape and bolted to the side of the baton frame for extra support while still being easy to pack down and transport.

Thank you so much for your reply. Are these the only screens available? Could you possibly send me a photo of them? Would you think with the frame and legs they would be sturdy enough for paintings to hang on?

Hi @artbluemuffin,

These are suggestions for the support structure you'd need to build to hold one of our decorative garden screens upright. The screens are usually attached directly to a wall or fence and do not have enough structural integrity on their own to support your artwork, or even themselves.

The support should be quite robust and provide a decent amount of rigidity. They should be able to support the garden screen and some small to medium artworks. The one on the left is likely the most sturdy as the feet that come out the front of it help prevent it from toppling forward.

sorry, the one on the left? They are all well after the other when I open the link.

So if I went to Bunnings special desk, before I put in my order, perhaps showed them this communication they would be able to help me order the right things? Do you think the Garden screens are most appropriate screens for me? My other idea was Lattice. As we have to transport the screens, the group were also asking which of the frame legs would be the easiest? We had thought of putting on wheels instead of legs. And the screen that would be preferable would have to be white in saying all of this of course we need to find somebody to do all of the construction. Being artists we are creative but not very handy. I have a physical disability, so I would have to rely on someone else. So the thoughts are Around ordering what we need, and then giving them to someone to do construction.
I have to say, this is such wonderful support thank you. What a great idea to have this.

Sorry, the frame support on the left in my rendering @artbluemuffin.

You would likely need to speak with one of the team members in the timber area and they can help you select timber for the frames.

Garden screens are certainly an idea, but lattices would also be a good option. Do you happen to have a local Men's Shed? It might be worth popping in and having a chat with them as they are often looking for a community project they can get involved in. You might find a helpful chap who would be willing to assemble them for you.

When you say "the one on the left" are you referring to the first product in the link that Mitch shared - this RapidOutdoor screen?
