How to fix RYOBI RSH2455 shredder?

I have a RYOBI RSH2455 mulcher/shredder (probably 9 plus years old). The cutting block assembly has fractured and I am looking to replace it. However, there no longer appears to be a spare part in any Ryobi or suppliers catalogue. Are you aware of any replacement or modification that can be made to keep this great mulcher going? Your help would be appreciated

I suggest having a look at this discussion - How to repair a Ryobi electric shredder? by @artdeco. In the discussion a reference was made to possibly sourcing a spare part. However, in regards to the availability of spare parts I'm afraid you are correct, Ryobi no longer make or stock the spare part for this particular model.

@Murf1 It does look like eBay still has this adjustment plate part available from a seller in Germany ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/284325609631 ), and the part I eventually obtained from there was fine, though I had it shipped to an address in Germany (wasn't very easy to arrange to get to me in NZ!) and you may have trouble getting it shipped too. In my case, it did turn out there was some previous damage to the machine where the replacement part fitted into, so that the new part didn't fit as tightly as it should, but it does still work. My machine doesn't shred as cleanly as I hoped, but at least I didn't have to throw it out.

My model number matches had a T added to the end, so you might like to double check the part is the same too.

Note that I think the main reason the adjustment plate breaks is because it is adjusted too far at once. It's designed so that a small adjustment will just shave a little aluminium off the surface of the plate (and cause the blades to shred your plant material beautifully), but a large adjustment will cause the blades to bite deeply into the softer metal of the plate so hard that it tears the plate apart. If you have good eyesight, you can see how close the blades are getting to the plate when the machine is running, and you'll probably hear a change in the sound when the blades touch the plate. At that point, the plate should be locked into place so that it doesn't get adjusted further by mistake. There's a locking knob for doing exactly that if I remember correctly.

Many thanks for the information. Unfortunately my Ryobi is an earlier model "without the T prefix". I have looked at the site you have suggested and it would appear that it does not stock the plate for my model, the model in your link appears to be that of RSH 2845 T which may not be compatible with my machine. However, many thanks for the information.

Could we make this?

Keep the rod.

Steel tube to fit.

Weld steel plate to the tube.

Then a thick piece of aluminium tapped with threads from the back = the front is then free of bolt heads against the 'cutter.'

Just thinking out loud.
