How to remove skirting with tiles hard against?

Hey guys,

So we’re just renovating our house we bought and unfortunately the old owner put tiles up against the skirting board, instead of ripping up the skirting, tiling then popping new ones on.

What is the best way to remove these? Conscious I don’t want to damage or chip the tiles as we don’t have any spares, and cause as little damage to the wall.

We have 30 linear metres we want to remove. Any estimates on how long this takes would also be appreciated.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your skirting board.

If the former owner did not glue the new tiles to the skirting board, you might have a chance to remove it. I suggest using a multi tool to cut behind the skirting board to dislodge the glue and nails that may be attached to skirting board. In theory once all the glue and nails have been cut off you should be able to lift the skirting board out of the tiles. If there are no surprises in the skirting boards installation, I estimate a removal time of 5 hours++.

From the photo it doesn't actually look like skirting, rather it's a timber trim and I would advise differently for the removal of each. For example this is a skirting profile and this is a sample of a quad trim being a lot lower in height.

Can you please supply another photo at closer to ground level.

🙂 I am also after some more pics of up closer to the edge. I was thinking trim more then an actual skirt as there is very little to go off from the photo.

The Multitool that @EricL has suggested is certainly something that may be needed if the skirt does drop below the tiles. But will wait for those extra close ups of the edge.
