How to close off decorative spaces in my Colorbond verandah?

We are putting in blinds across the front of our verandah mainly to reduce the heat but to also manage the host of birds that make this space their toilet.  However, it has this design that i would need to close off. I was thinking of cutting clear polycarbonate but not sure how effective it would be and if it would hold in high winds which we regularly experience. Has anyone ever successfully blocked theirs to birds?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @lms00001. It's wonderful to have you join us and many thanks for your question on enclosing a verandah.

Polycarbonate could certainly work, especially if you use a thicker sheet and install it properly with framing or beading on both the inside and outside to secure it against wind pressure. It’s also worth gluing or screwing it into place so it doesn’t rattle.

Another option to consider is a vertical grooved panelling, which would give a neat finish and could blend well with the existing verandah structure.

If you want to keep the light coming through, you could look at decorative screens. These would block birds effectively, and give the space a more custom, architectural look.

For a softer finish, shadecloth can also be stretched and stapled inside the openings, which will still allow airflow while deterring birds.

Each of these approaches can be tailored to how much light, airflow, and weather protection you want to keep in your verandah.
