How to fix pool track coming away?

Hi there my 40lt pool track is jutting out in a few places. Can someone please suggest how to reattach it to the bricks behind it. Is it just a matter of drilling it back in? 
I’ve never done anything like this before but can’t afford high price for someone to do it for me. If you have any suggestions please tell it to me like I’m ten 😊 and I’d really appreciate it. Thanks

It looks like what’s happening here is that the old fixings holding your liner track in place have rusted away, which is why the track has started to jut out. Normally, the white track that holds the liner in place is screwed into the brick or concrete wall. Over time, those screws or nails can corrode and let go. You can see rust stains where the previous fixings were.

 

Typically, the white track is attached to the wall with screws, and then the liner is stretched and attached to it. I'm not sure whether you'll be able to detach the liner, fix the white track in position and then stretch the liner back over with water in the pool. It's generally hard enough to stretch the liner onto the track without water in the pool.

 

The other thing I need to flag is that you’ve got water sitting behind the liner. The way a liner pool should be set up is that the liner sits snugly against the concrete shell with no water trapped between. If you reattach the track as-is, you’re essentially sandwiching that water between the liner and the shell, and that’s not ideal. It can lead to staining, mould, or weakening of the liner over time. Sometimes a small amount will eventually dry out, but it’s not the way it should be left long-term.

 

So while you could drill new holes and screw the track back into the wall as a quick fix, you may only be buying yourself a little time. If the rusted fixings are widespread, then this is really a bigger job than just reattaching a few loose sections. The proper fix might involve draining the pool, pulling back the liner, removing all the old rusted screws, and then going around with new stainless steel fixings to secure the track properly. That way, you reset everything and give yourself years of peace of mind instead of chasing sections as they fail.

 

If you’re after a short-term D.I.Y. patch, yes—you can drill into the brick and use new screws with plastic wall plugs to reattach that part of the track. Just be aware that it might not last if the rest of the fixings are already on their way out.
