How to increase wardrobe size?

Hi Bunnings Community,

I need help with my current wardrobe in my bedroom.

I’m thinking if the wardrobe can be extended on both sides and on top as well. Since I feel that the size is a bit small for my family (2 girls 😀 )

I want to remove the doors and current frames, add a frame on left, right and on top, insert more shelving units and add a sliding door.

How can get started? I could buy a wardrobe inserts and add the shelving but not sure on how to extend the length and height of it.

I want my wardrobe to be extended till the red lines in the below image.

Hi @ksashok,

To extend your wardrobe to the red lines, the first step will be removing the existing doors and frame. Once that’s out, you’ll need to cut the plasterboard back to your marked lines so you can open up the area. From there, you’ll need to build new stud framing on the left, right, and top to form the new wardrobe opening. That new stud work will then need to be plastered in. This means joint taping and plastering over the joins, including the internal and external corners, so the new section ties neatly into the existing wall.

After that, you can think about how you want to lay out the inside. You could keep the existing shelving, pull it all out and custom build something to suit, or, as you mentioned, buy a modular storage units that will slip neatly into the new space.
