How to restore a weathered deck?

Hi all,

I am planning on renovating the deck on my own and needed a bit of guidance.

Firstly, there are these marks all over the ceiling (image attached), can someone clarify what they are? I think I need to use a sandpaper but not sure what type I should use? 

Secondly, I want to oil my deck. Someone suggested because deck panels have grooves, I shouldn't sand just use a pressure washer and then oil twice. Can I use a 2030PSI pressure washer, or do I need a more heavy duty one? Do I need to do anything else or keep something else in mind?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I'm not 100% certain, but the blemishes on your rafters look like they are insect-related, possibly from moths. If you can't remove it with something simple like a mild detergent and a scourer, then try using some fine sandpaper like this 400 Grit Sandpaper.

As your deck is grooved, it would be difficult to sand it back without completely removing the grooves, so the advice you have received is sound. I'd suggest you start by giving it a good scrub with a Deck Scrub Brush and Cabot's Deck Clean, before going back over it with your pressure cleaner. This additional step will help to remove any dirt and grime that has settled in the bottom of the grooves. The second pass with your pressure cleaner will help to tidy things up and move anything that the scrubbing brush has lifted.

Your 2030 PSI pressure cleaner should be fine for this job.
