How to replace an old toilet?

I am a newbie to the home renovation journey. I recently bought an old house and started to renovate it, but got stuck on the first mission. After bringing some photos of my current toilet to a nearby Bunnings store, and receiving advice from the staff, I bought this toilet suite. Caroma Luna Cleanflush Toilet Suite WELS 4 Star 4.5L/Full - Bunnings Australia. I also ordered an installation service. Unfortunately, when a plumber responded to the installation token, they informed me that the model I purchased wasn’t a like-for-like replacement. Its back-to-wall design conflicted with the position of my existing stop tap. Lesson learned - I now know I need to choose a close-coupled model with a bottom inlet and an S-trap to suit the current setups, and stay away from an enclosed back-to-wall design. I found this from the Bunnings website that seems to tick "all the boxes" Caroma Luna Cleanflush Close Coupled Toilet Suite WELS 4 Star 4.5L/Full - Bunnings Australia. I sent the link to the plumber, but they said the published specifications of this toilet suite are insufficient to decide whether it fits or not, and offered an inspection at home for a service call fee (if it does not fit). I am confused now, and would like to ask the community how likely the Caroma Luna Cleanflush Close Coupled Toilet Suite WELS 4 Star 4.5L/Full - Bunnings Australia can be installed as a like-for-like installation service without extra plumbing works. I'm sorry to hear you've had issues with your installation.

A like-for-like replacement would be another link system similar to what you already have. A close-couple or back-to-wall toilet is a different style and are unlikely to fall under the like-for-like installation offer. Your current toilet has a plastic link cover, which means the pan has a lot of flexibility on how far away from the wall it can be placed, and currently, it's quite far out from the it. The Caroma Luna Cleanflush Close Coupled Toilet Suite WELS 4 Star 4.5L/Full has the ability to suit a floor outlet 90-190mm from the wall. This is measured to the centre of the floor outlet. Your outlet appears to be right on the 190mm mark, so it might or might not fit. It's so close that you'd probably have to test fit it to see. A difficult situation all round. Most close-couple suites recommend a 140mm offset from the wall for floor outlet. I can't find any other close-couple toilets that can accommodate a larger distance.

The only way we can guarantee the like-for-like installation cost is if you opt for a link toilet suite, rather than the more modern close-couple or back-to-wall option, as they would require further work and installation costs if fittings need to be moved.

That toilet has a 140-250mm setout, so it will accommodate your 190mm distance. As far as I can tell, this would be a like-for-like swap, though the plumber will be able to confirm whether any additional costs could be involved.
