How to spruce up my pool area?

Hi,

We bought this house and the pool area is quite dated.

We will be:

installing a glass fence on the retaining wall and across the lawn area and,
removing the chicken coop and raised garden bed.

What is a cost effective way of modernising the terracotta brick pavers? I've seen various products like luxapool or crommelin liquidstone as a painted option. But I do have a concern that it will just look like pained pavers at the end of the day and not actually improve the look.

Any ideas and colour suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think that Crommelin LiquidStone would be a fantastic choice to spruce up and modernise the space. It creates a durable, textured coating that looks like natural stone rather than paint, giving a more refined and contemporary finish.

When selecting a colour, opt for soft, neutral tones such as Basalt, Limestone, or Sandstone. These shades balance well with glass fencing, timber features, and surrounding greenery, helping to tone down the orange of old terracotta for a more natural look. Lighter colours also reflect heat, keeping the area cooler underfoot, while mid-greys and stone tones create a clean, elegant contrast with pool water. A neutral palette ensures the space feels bright, modern, and cohesive for years to come.

This would be a simple, relatively easy-to-achieve solution that would modernise and beautify your pool area.

Thats a nice pool and looks like its in a pretty good condition 🙂

Some ideas to change up the area that flicked through my mind.

Painting the pavers, I would say no to that. Im not a fan of painting concrete floors or even walls lol That said I have painted my bessa block poolside wall a nice grey to improve my pool area. It does look better but the effort to have to remove/restore the paint was large.

Removing some pavers and replacing them with a different type of paver, I like this idea a lot more so. You can create an edge to the pool, an old school frame effect around the side area or even a scattered random look.

The plants you have next to the pool, how attached are you to them? Depending on the style you want to end up with you could remove some of them and have a more open space in the garden area.

The last idea that came to mind was an open 2.4m + posted area. Either a long straight line of posts with a beam, or a right angled corner with the posts and beams. or a narrow arbor with the posts and beams. With any of the structures it gives a feeling of a room and breaks up eytelines. plus you can add lighting as in the soft twinkle lights or a loom of lights. Also it could give height to a water mister if you live in a hot area.
