How to revive old drawers?

I've had these drawers FOREVER! Since I was a teenager. I'm now in my early 50s and I want get rid of the horrible orange finish. Years and years ago, Dad stripped them back and then just applied a coat of Estapol. What are the best steps to take to remove the Estapol and get the wood ready for a new finish?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. it's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your drawer cabinet.

The general steps are to sand the surface of the cabinet back to wood. I would suggest using an Ozito 200W Detail Sander as it comes with a set of sanding pads which should be enough to do a single cabinet. Once you've sanded down the cabinet, I recommend cleaning the surface of the cabinet with a clean rag and a vacuum cleaner with the soft brush attachment.

Once you've thoroughly cleaned it you can now stain, seal or paint the surface with your preferred finish. I recommend having a quick look at this discussion - Bedside tables makeover by @inspiredbycoast. It is an excellent example of how to achieve a modern finish on refurbished furniture.

My apologies for the delayed response. Yes, your Ryobi palm sander should be sufficient to remove the current sealer on your cabinet. I suggest starting with a 180grit sandpaper and finishing off with a 240grit for a nice finish.
