How to build a low-level composite deck?

Hi,

I am wanting to deck this patio area using ekodeck. Ive watched lots of videos however I still have some questions.

The area is 6.4 metres x 3.6 metres, from the ground to the step is 172 mm, so I don't have much room. What would be the best substructure for the same space I have? I was thinking of using a ledger board along the walls and a bearer straight down the middle with joists hanging from the bearer and ledger. I am going to use H4 treated wood and have concrete footings. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your decking project.

Please allow me to suggest some possible alternatives. I propose looking at using DEKO 250 x 150 x 150mm Instant Concrete Foundation Block. Each foundation block has a height of 150mm, but the timber slot is only 110mm tall. If you were to use 90x45 framing timber the total hight would come to 155mm add to that the timber decking panel which is 19mm you would get 174mm. You would be 2mm higher than your provided space, but you can settle the concrete footing down into the soil by 2mm giving you exactly 172mm.

I also recommend building a floating decking frame instead of attaching it to your house. This will make the build much simpler, and you will not have to drill into the walls of your house. These guides will give you an idea of what you need to take into consideration when planning your decking frame.

I propose drawing a plan on paper and using all the information you've gathered in your research. You can then share your plan with the community and any questions you might have.
