How to close and relocate existing entryway?

I would like to remove the pony wall and close the existing entryway. I would like a built in bookcase in the living room and flush finish in the entry.

i am oscillating between building a bookcase or using a pre purchase bookcase and creating a built in look.

the pillars are 30x30cm, ceiling height 260cm, opening 105cm.

pics of area, inspiration and the bookcase I would use. All advice appreciated

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your entryway.

In order to remove the half wall at the entrance it will need to be demolished. The plaster will need to removed and the timber frame cut down. The exposed sections of the posts will need to be repaired. Plasterboard will need to be put back on the surface of the post and the surface finished for painting. However, if the posts are made of masonry or brick. The surface will need to be rendered then painted over.

If you are installing a new wall on the other side where the two posts are, it will be necessary to build a new timber frame. They will need to be anchored onto the posts, floor and ceiling. The frame can then be covered with plasterboard and plastered over before painting. If you wish to build your bookcase in another location, please let me know.

I propose purchasing a large bookcase rather than building it into the wall. In this manner, you'll have the choice of replacing it with another cabinet should you change your mind in the future.
