How to prepare a concrete floor for tiling?

I was wondering how smooth does a floor need to be to tile it? I have smoothed out the bumps but there are some small dents in the floor. I dont want my tile to crack so am wondering if I need to repair before I tile. Most of the dents were there prior to me removing the tiles but I just want to make sure as I have bought failry expensive tiles. Not sure if the size of the tile makes aidfference but the new tiles are 300x300 and the previous tiles were slightly larger than subway tiles. Thanks.

It looks like you've done a solid job so far, and I think you are likely able to proceed based on what I can see.

Ultimately, the smoother you can get the surface, the better, but variations of less than 2-3mm in depth shouldn't matter too much, as they will be filled up by the tile adhesive.

If you had some depressions that exceeded 3mm in depth, it would be worthwhile filling them with a repair mortar such as this Dunlop Floor Repairer Rapid Patch Mortar. This will ensure that the tile adhesive has solid contact with the tile and there are no gaps beneath the tiles.
