How to lay brick pavers next to a wall?

Hi everyone,
I’m new to the Bunnings Workshop community and this is my first post.

I’m planning to lay brick pavers in the side yard of my home and would appreciate some advice before I get started. Specifically, I’m unsure about how close the pavers should be laid to the house wall.

Is it acceptable to lay brick pavers directly up to the wall, or should there be a gap left between the wall and the pavers? If a gap is recommended, what size should it be and what is the best way to finish it?

My main concern is protecting the house from termite invasion and moisture issues. I’d like to make sure the paving complies with best practice and doesn’t create any future problems with drainage, ventilation, or termite inspection access.

Any guidance, recommended methods, or relevant standards would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your questions about laying brick pavers.

Is it acceptable to lay brick pavers directly up to the wall, or should there be a gap left between the wall and the pavers? I recommend not laying the pavers next to the wall and leaving a minimum gap of at least 100mm or more. Some termite inspectors even suggest a larger gap of 500mm. It's always best to check the rules and regulations of your local council before you start your build.
