How to install Rolltrak Miracle cover track?

I need to replace the track on the patio / house sliding glass door. The miracle track seems to be the choice, but, all the advice says use metal bog and was wondering which is the recommended type. I do have Selleys Aqua Knead_it polymer repair compound and wondered if this is suitable. Will appreciate advice from others who may have used this system. Thanks and regards, Dave001

It's relatively a straight forward job, but like most it's all in the preparation. It's important when preparing the worn track to remove any raised bits of split metal etc. use thin wire-brush to give the track a good clean down. Start with one like this and then finish with this type. Finish off with turps and a few rags to get it clean and dry as best as possible.

Lay the pre-cut Miracle track in place. I like to then use a long tipped marker to draw a straight edge so, I have a guide when placing the track down once the bog has been applied. There are cheaper ones, but I haven't had much success. This one has been in my tool bag for over a year and is so good and ultra handy. Most people don't even know about them.

You need to use this Metal Bog that @JacobZ mentioned. Make sure you mix it correctly so that it doesn't go off fast or you're in trouble. Place measured amounts in different parts of a mixing container and apply the hardener to each part and then mix it all together rather than starting with one big amount and essentially guess the hardener quantity. Also, make up a little more than you think as you don't want to start making up more while it's going off. Oh and wear protective gloves.

Once the track is in place, keep pressing it down by running a rag with turps in it along the length. This cleans the excess bog down as you prevent the track rising. Keep doing this until you're happy its staying in place. Then give it a couple more test goes every minute or so as a safe guard until your satisfied its secure.

Sounds great @Dave001. Plus anything you can rig up to lever the door over the outer lip will help. Something like a chisel resting on a short block, then use your foot to lever the door up as you pull it over the lip.

Hi @Nailbag thanks for your advice. .

I have had the door out a couple of times previously. Old age and a shoulder replacement make the lifting difficult, hence the "door lifter" described earlier. I need to change the runners as well, so a strong young fella will come in handy for that as well.

Hi Jacob, all sorted thanks. I did finally get an answer from the manufacturer who recommended builders bog. I had a look at both products and have come to the conclusion that metal bog is the go. @Nailbag has done a few of these tracks and advises metal bog.

Just to be transparent, I've only used the metal bog as I never knew or thought to use standard builders. @JacobZ most likely came to that conclusion after getting the manufactures advice such as yourself.

I've just done some Googling and interestingly they all come up with using metal bog, even one video that stated metal in the description but used builders in the video itself. So, obviously its perfectly fine to use especially if thats what been recommended and it maybe more forgiving to use of metal in this application. It certainly has more common other DIY repair projects down track.

This video is worth watching as he quickly and clearly shows each step. Let us know how you go Dave.
