How to add shade for the pergola?

Hi Everyone, long time reader, first time poster. We have an east facing pergola that bakes in sunlight for couple of hours in the summer days. Its approx 2.5m in length with slanted roof. What do you think is the best way to put in a some sort of a shade for that one? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I'd say the two best options are either installing some Shade Cloth, or a Bistro Blinds Charcoal Shade Screen.

Either of these options would require you to mount some timber to the brick wall, in line with the post. You could use a piece of 90 x 45mm Outdoor Framing H3 Treated Pine, and then use masonry anchors to attach it to the brick.

If you used shade cloth, you could cut it to shape, then attach it to the post, the outside edge of the pergola and the new piece of timber using shade cloth fixings like these Coolaroo Shell Timber Fasteners.

If you were going with the bistro blinds, you would need to attach a piece of timber that is level and runs horizontally from the outside post to the timber that you've bolted to the wall. You could then attach the blinds to this piece of timber.
