Good idea to protect exposed copper gas pipe around gas meter?

For protection when mowing or trimming, found these half locking conduits, available in 20mm, 25mm, and 32mm (inside diameter), UV protected (suggests suitable for outdoor).

Have not seen people wrap things around gas pipes, so not sure if not allowed or unnecessary.
