How to replace front door?

Looking to change front door to double or one large opening with the side sections. Anything Bunnings do that would fit well here. I can provide measurements as needed, here

Existing:

Frame is 1690mm wide
Door is 2040mm high and 820mm wide
Side windows are 2020mm high and 400mm wide

Based on the measurements you’ve provided, you can definitely make a double door or a wider opening work in that space, and it’s a fairly achievable upgrade.

With an overall frame width of 1690mm, two standard 820mm wide doors will fit nicely. To do this, you would be removing the existing door and side light sections and then installing new rebated door jambs around the full perimeter. Using two 820mm doors would leave roughly 25mm either side for the jambs, which is perfectly workable and a very common setup.

In terms of height, standard doors are typically 2040mm high, so you’re already very close to standard sizing. If you do find you need a little extra clearance at the top once everything is stripped out, adjusting the head height by around 20mm is usually quite manageable for a confident DIYer or any experienced door installer. Since this kind of change involves removing the existing frame anyway, minor adjustments like that are not a big issue.

Hi Dave (@Glassy), yes, the Parkwood Duramax composite doors are actually a very solid option, especially if you want something that’s low-maintenance and can handle the elements. They’re made with a polyurethane core and GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) skins, so they’re more stable than solid timber and won’t warp, swell, or crack in extreme weather. The thermal performance is good too, keeping your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

I can't find any reference to the rebates for hinges already being on the door, and suspect that would be something needing to be done on-site. The doors can be machined as per timber alternatives.

If I went ahead and bought two of these, any recommendations on replacement frame and jams, I assume I couldn’t get away with keeping existing due to going with a different configuration

And one last question, the install service, any ideas on cost of it was the frame and two doors to install. I do like the idea of that as it’s one less thing on my plate 😁

You really only have a door jamb for a single door, and then the panels on either side @Glassy. Everything would need to be removed, and a full-length top jamb and side jambs installed.
