How to clean deck which has grooves in timber?

Hi. Want to repaint my deck but the timber has grooves in it. Its time to clean and update it as it is looking shocking. People have suggested that I turn the boards over (on the smoother surface) before repainting. Its a large deck and I don't really want to do that, if I can help it. Does it really make a difference ? Surely a scrubbing brush will help to uplift dirt from the grooves ??

There was a similar question asked a few weeks ago, I suggest having a look at the discussion - How to update backyard fencing and pool ... - Page 2 by @Firsttimerhelp5. I suggested that aside from using a standard floor sander, it will be necessary to use a detail sander to clean the grooves of the decking panel. This will add an extra bit of effort to the sanding job, but if done properly will give your deck a superb finish. I propose doing this as a three-person job, one to use the orbital floor sander the other two to use detail sanders to do the grooves.
