How to dry thick concrete paint?

Hey everyone,

I had a quick question on this product that I just used on a concrete balcony: https://www.bunnings.com.au/berger-jet-dry-4l-heavy-duty-smoke-grey-gloss-paving-paint_p1416197

I think I have made a mistake of slapping on too much paint in some parts (I'm a novice). So wherever the paint is too thick, I can seem to scratch it with my nails - almost like clay.

It has been a full 4 days of drying in extremely hot weather. So I'm wondering, is there anything I need to know or can do to 'fix' it? Or should I just wait for more drying. The can just says 16 hours of wait for recoating, so that would not necessarily mean dry enough for use.

If you have applied too much paint in one section, you could give it an extra few days of drying time to see if the soft paint underneath will dry off. This is on the condition that it will receive a great deal of sunshine. Please allow us to contact our supplier regarding the over painted sections. As soon as we have more information, we'll get back to you.

I've spoken with Berger's team, who have reiterated what Eric said. If you've applied it too thick, then the best thing you can do is give it a few more days to see if it fully cures. During this time, isolate the area and ensure it is not walked on or driven on. If, after another few days, you don't see any improvement, it is likely that you will need to scrape it off and reapply or just leave it as is and repair it if issues happen in the future.

Unfortunately, if you are going to scrape it back, it is likely there will be some lippage between the two paint surfaces, but this can be reduced by lightly sanding the edges to reduce the sharpness of the transition.

If necessary, pop on some gloves and long protective clothing, then use a utility knife to cut around the area for removal. Once an outline has been made, use a metal paint scraper like this 100mm Sharp Edge Paint Scraper to remove the paint. You can then use a sanding sponge to dull the edge in the paint before applying a patch coat to this area. Just make sure to apply it in a thin coat, wait the 16 hours, then apply a second coat if necessary.

I can say that the surface feels much better now that it was a day or two ago (despite the heavy rain yesterday night).

Also, Berger's product page mentions an entire week of drying before full use, so I think I will wait a little more.
