Haha yes the time lapse makes this project seem super easy and fast. The concrete has a burnished finish and we are looking to seal it in the coming days. Any tips or suggestion on how or what to use to do so would be greatly appreciated!

This studio and shed is still a work in progress, but we have some big plans for these things!

Designed by Sarah. Engineering signed off by a private certifier. Built by us, with a little bit of help from family and friends along the way.

Hoping to update with progress pics along the way.

Is this what you were talking about, it's my router table I made for my handheld variable speed Makita router, I got the idea from Youtube, and bought the track, router plate and on/off switch from Timbecon in Melbourne. I used mdf and Tassie Oak for materials.

I am most fascinated by the router guide you are using.... It looks like something you've created yourself(?). Would you share the details on what you used to make it please?

I love seeing the guides and jigs for tools that d.i.y-ers create. They are often far more versatile and practically useful than commercially made items, because they are made with use in mind, rather than saleroom appeal.

Yes the adapters are good and I am slowly changing al of my old plastic cheapies with the Irwin ones. The lock downs used to be on the shelf in Bunnings but I had not seen them for a while so I did a bit of detective work and phoned Irwin and thay said I could get them as a special order. I am in the middle of creating a new work shop and Bunnings is becoming a bit like a home from home.

I'd rather see a decent messy weld bead than a neat bead that hasn't penetrated . The bead where you have connected the diagonal to the upright is very impressive for a first-time welder; in fact, I'd say it's exceptional! It doesn't actually matter how messy a weld is. That's just aesthetical. The important thing is that it has good penetration of the steel. In the future, if the job calls for it, you can neaten the finish up with a grinder. I believe the old saying goes: A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't!

Congratulations on a job well done. You must be thrilled with your efforts, and rightly so. Let me mention , as I trust he will also be suitably impressed.

That's a fantastic suggestion on the hold-down jigs. I actually searched for something similar but didn't realise it was available through our special orders. I really like the deck tool kit as well. It would be perfect when trying to straighten warped boards.

I've been using a bunch of more budget-friendly quick clamps for a while now. They've got the job done but don't have the same clamping force as the Irwin branded ones. They're also at the end of their life as they now slip. I've convinced myself I should invest in four of the medium-sized clamps and the additional wide pads.

We look forward to hearing all about your projects around the house and garden and would encourage you to let us know if you ever need assistance or would like to share them. I trust you'll find the community a fantastic place to share your knowledge and find great inspiration for your own projects at the same time.

Just Letting you know how it turned out.
Super messy but quite happy with it, seems quite strong. Some of the welds just made a hole but I just added 2 more side plates to keep it strong.

I must admit it is a well designed bench. I have done somthing similar myself but used the Irwin Quick Grip Hold down jigs. They can be ordered in by from the. special orders desk.

There are a couple of other adapters as well and my favourite is an extention bracket that lets you join two quick grips together to clamp large jobs.

The Irwin site is well worth a visit.

Could we please trouble you for a picture of the battery terminals and details of the model number? That will help us identify what older style battery you are looking for. Once we know which battery it is, I would be more than happy to contact Ozito for you to see if it is still available to order. You might like to consider replacing the charger at the same time as often it's difficult to decipher whether the battery or charger is at fault.

Can you still buy the older style Ozito batteries. I was given a combo kit but the battery is dead I tried everything to get it going but to no avail.so a new battery is needed I think or is their something else I can do.

Looks great but it's also woken me up to the plans of using part of a new shed to temp live in while house is being built. The shed builders are currently doing up the plans. Not sure it'll be big enough to survive without tripping over myself. Mine is planned as a 6x10. Now i know I'll have to go gentle on what they plan.

The first thing that comes to mind is size. How big will your shed be? Do you have enough space on your property. Do you have enough material or will you be having it trucked in to your property. My only other concern is do you need a plan and permit for the council for this particular type of building? I have seen a few videos for rammed earth buildings and definition from the Ozgov is :

"Rammed earth walls are sometimes known as pisé walls — from the Latin origin pisé de terre. First used in Lyons, France, in 1562, the term applied to the principle of constructing walls at least 500mm thick by ramming earth between two parallel frames that were then removed, revealing a completed section of compressed earth wall"

On a general online search there's a mob out in Victoria who do it on a professional level. That might give you a better idea of the scope of work that is involved when doing this kind of project. Lets give your query a shout out to our members and see if anyone has attempted to build one on their own. To be honest I don't have any experience with this type of building material. But if you do go ahead with it, please document your building journey here on workshop. I'm sure the information you post will be invaluable to all the members of the site should they decide on doing a more earth friendly form of construction! : ) Good luck and stay safe.

That's some really innovative thinking right there . I would have never come up with that idea myself. I particularly like the fact that you can fine adjust the level through turning the feet. You could take your design even further so it has infinite adjustments. Not that your project called for it, but I'll illustrate below.

Overhead cupboard jacks

I have building my own overhead laundry cupboards, so I decided to save money on buying overhead cupboard jacks, I made my own from scrap architrave, 90mm x 19mm and purchase 4 adjustable cupboard base feet, approx $12 for a set of four, see photos. You will see them being used when I upload my overhead laundry cupboard photo's.

Large paper towel holder

This weekend I bought this large paper towel roll from my second home, Bunnings, I decided to make this paper towel holder, I made to attach to my French cleats, simple but effective. Hope you like it.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

Docking saw - used to cut long lengths of timber down to size. The machine can cut across the length of timber at a 90-degree angle. Examples of products that can be cut on a docking saw include Pine framing, MDF mouldings, Pine mouldings, Tasmanian Oak mouldings, Merbau decking and Pine decking.

Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include Melamine, Plywood and MDF.

Does this service have a cost?

Bunnings stores may charge a small fee for timber cutting. The price is:

Timber docking - First two cuts per piece are free, and 50 cents per additional cut

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

Visting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. I need to have my timber delivered, but can it be cut as well?

, No plastic as we live in a high rainfall area and i wanted any rain getting inside to drain though the pavers , hence the raised limestone

Thank you for the inspiration, re folding legs, I decided to modify my portable small work table, I have altered the legs to be foldable, pleases see photo's below. I need to see if I can get some stays for the legs to stay opened, in the meantime I just fitted a piece of timber to hold the legs apart.

This is something I tried early last year - and yes, I admit, it's a cheap and nasty alternative, but so far it's worked.

It's a covered area that once upon a time was my three son's sandpit. All grown up - I wanted to use the area to store some equipment.

I kept the sand - leveled it.

Put down second hand corrugated iron.

On that I placed those laminated sheets (name?) from Bunnings. Memory thinks they were $70 for a 2400 mm X 1200 mm sheet.

At first I thought it wouldn't work, but as I walked over it and loaded stuff on, it 'settled' into the sand and became very stable. The troughs in the corrugated iron, in the sand, seem to have excellent holding power.

An area is exposed to the elements and so far - so good. Can't see why it wouldn't work in a small shed?

Anyway, just a thought.

Late to the party here.

Problem 1

Anchoring the shed is the most important issue. 3m x 3m is going to be quite a sail in the wind. So, the best way to get some free advice would be to speak to your local Council. They have engineers and their heads around wind ratings and solution. Their solution might involve some concrete piers, possibly some u-bolts anchored into them to hold the lower rail of the shed down. Tell them you’re not well off, see if they give you an affordable solution.

Problem 2

You can use a pallet or decking style solution inside (as per what your friend built). Just need to make sure that you don’t have water coming in under the bottom of the shed (because it’s not on a slab). You can use heavy duty builder’s plastic. Take it from the top of your *deck/pallet*, vertically down and under the bottom of the shed - then fix by burying or using something to hold it down. Waterproofing done.

I tried a similar process with an old Clint's Warehouse workhorse. From memory the holes were for pegs - where work pieces would butt up against them. The process never really worked.

But my Craftright clamps have no clamping power whatsoever in this scenario.

Unfortunately the legs aren't foldable, I couldn't find anything suitable from Bunnings, so I just had to improvise and come up with this idea, I needed to have it finished and ready to use for the weekend, maybe I might have a look at making foldable legs for the table, I'll post it if I do go ahead.

In the mean time here are some photo's of how I did my table legs. Please excuse the quality of the photo's, I need to get used to getting them uploaded to this site.

Yes they can, if not, you can remove the roll pin on the adjusting lever end, then you can pass it through the hole and re fit the clamping part.

I had to look at my cheap hand vices to understand what you've done. So like these, the Irwin Quick Grip end can be disassembled and reassembled?

Did you find a workbench you were interested in?

We have a fantastic range of flat pack workbenches that you might like to check out. I particularly like the Pinnacle 1405 x 1100 x 540mm Compact Garage Workbench as it is a great size and comes with a pegboard to hang your tools. The best bit about these workbenches is their modular nature. If your tool collection gets too big or more bench space is needed, you can add another unit.

Portable small work table, 900mm long x 450mm wide

I have just completed making and installing shelves and duct cover for a range hood cupboard for my nephews new place, I new he had no work benches to work on, so I decided to to make a small portable work bench, made out of mdf top and hardwood (Tas oak) all materials are from Bunnings. The finish has been waxed,(I hate painting) I made it so I can take it apart to fit in the car. It was very useful on site. I routered 20mm equally spaced to allow for clamping the timber to be routered.

Maybe marine ply decking as a floor will do the job. Would be much better than pallet timber.

Have you tried contacting your local council to see if they have people in your area who will help you with the labour and fetching things (such as slabs)? Many councils have a list of volunteer organisations that do odd jobs for pensioners for free. The council may also have used slabs for free. (If so, ask the size. They tend to be bigger than standard ones.) It would be worth asking.

It pivots on a piece of 20mm galvanised pipe housed between two side supports and locks in using eyebolts and hex head bolts!

I've got the same Ozito table saw and understand that it would really benefit from being built into a workbench. I want to add that I'm particularly impressed by your Ryobi 18-volt collection. Those clip-on battery hangers look really functional.

Oops,misread, I’ll tell ya,if anyone wants grey hair then buy a shed and try doing things on the cheap,lol! Driving me crazy so I’ve thought long and hard on it and thought I’m just going to have to budget harder and figure something out for the long run but a mate of mine has kindly made up some marine ply decking,almost a pallet and it’s going to have to do for now but I just want to say that you guys have been awesome and I just want to thank you all for your helpful suggestions even if I can’t afford to do them or I’ve misread what was being said, it’s been a lot of fun and when I’ve finally done it all I promise to post up some pics for you all Thanks again everyone,Stay Safe and Stay Crafty DIYing,

So I’ve been running out of space in my garage/workshop so I built a couple of mobile stands to house our Ryobi tools.
Fliptop tool stand holds the belt/disc sander and the thicknesser.
Folding wing mitre table for my Ryobi Dual Bevel Mitre Saw.
Super happy with how they both work!

Wow, instead of my feeling jealous, you have inspired me to get on and do something. My(our) shed is a mess. I did not know there was such a thing as a workbench flat pack so I will get on and look at the Bunnings site. I also see how great the pallet idea is. Thankyou for posting.

Just confirming that Mitchell is correct, I was indeed suggesting not to use pallets. I meant that they were freely available for the display yards to use themselves for mounting their display sheds on because they already have some laying around from deliveries. You may get some slabs for free if you ask around or look on Gumtree. (I happily gave 80 away last year to tidy up my backyard.)

If I understood 's comment above correctly, "I think pallets would rot and break too easily.", he was advising against using them and pointed out that they were just used for ease of transportation. I would agree that pallets would not be considered a permanent foundation for your shed, as they are pine and will rot if placed on the ground.

Your best method would be to speak with a team member at your local store regarding acquiring pallets. If pallets are available, then the team might be able to organise the delivery of them to your address for a minimal fee.

my first ever post was about getting the easiest and mostly cheapest flooring for a 3x3m shed, well thank you to everyone who offered me solutions,appreciated but I must (if possible) go with Fred Bears idea about the left over store pallets and was wondering how many I could actually have for free and would that be from my local NEW(awesome)SUPER BUNNINGS STORE now open at Kembla Grange (first visit yesterday and was in awe,couldn’t close my mouth,MAGNIFICENT) So I was wondering and hoping as it was said the pallets are free if I would be allowed to get what’s needed for my floor and a few extra maybe so I could put a cheap type of decking around my shed. As a pensioner you learn to settle for the not so glamorous things but the cheapest and ones that do the job needed, I’m not fussy but I’m giving myself a challenge to see what I can do with pallets as an alternative to spending money,I’m a perfectionist so I think I might surprise everybody with the outcome if I am allowed to have these pallets no longer in use from the store. All I need to know now is how I can get them home so again I’m looking forward to your replies from maybe kind and considerate people who are willing to retrieve and deliver these pallets to my address as I don’t think I’d get them on my mobility scooter,lol! ANY TAKERS.? Pip🌼

I have had a lot of people tell me they have used the idea for kids tables, study/work areas when they have limited space or sharing the area. I agree this would be great for jigsaw puzzles. I remember growing up taking over the dining table to do puzzles and come dinner time be watching it like a hawk as it was slowly manoeuvred out the way ha ha.

Plans for its use is basically everything you use a woodworking mallet for, chiselling, knocking in dowels and bowties,

As for how the weight was achieved, I basically followed this video, but instead of the head being made up of 3 layers, I used 2 and drilled about 70% through each with a 40mm forstner bit. I cut the slot in both sides for the handle, filled all 4 holes with sinkers and then glued the 2 sides and handle together.

Wise decision. I think the sales yards put assembled sheds on pallets just so they can move them around easily and they have pallets at hand.

I strongly suggest that you use 600mm slabs (25 of) & lay them inside the shed, when it's built and leveled. I've always done this with garden sheds because: a) the floor is then above the level of surroundings, so water is less likely to run in and b) the pavers, sitting on the lip of the inner frame, will hold it down in strong winds (short of a cyclone maybe). Level the area, put down plastic sheeting if dampness is an issue. Place shed on it. Add a little dry sand and use the inner lip and a scaper board to relevel floor area for the slabs. I think pallets would rot and break too easily. If you prefer the sleepers, as Mitchell suggested, make sure the floor level is at least a little above ground level to keep water out & bolt the shed to them. I hope those suggestions are of use.

Edit: I just noticed that the sleepers suggested by Mitchell are 50mm deep and 3M long, so they could go inside the shed and sit on the inner lip, giving a raised floor surface and heavy items inside would then hold the shed down in the wind. That may be easier to manage than heavy slabs.

The most budget-friendly solution I can come up with would be laying concrete pavers around the perimeter for the shed to sit on. You could then have ANL 1 Tonne 10mm Blue Metal Loose Aggregate delivered to your house to fill up the interior floor to the level of the pavers. If only the pavers are used for the floor, it will cost several hundred dollars and the gravel infill is a great cost-saving measure.

Alternatively, instead of the pavers, I can't see why you couldn't use 200 x 50mm 3.0m Ironwood Classic Treated Pine Sleepers instead of the pavers, which would drop the cost significantly again.

As you have mentioned, using pallets could be done and our stores will normally have some free to give away. Let me mention to see if he has any other solutions.

Have you tried a sealer similar to our Rust-Oleum 887ml Matt Clear Chalked Protective Topcoat? It was designed for use over our Rust-Oleum Chalked range, but would also be suitable over water-based paint.

For a surface which coffee cups are placed on, I would suggest Cabot's Water Based Matt Cabothane Clear Polyurethane Varnish. It's suitable for furniture and is harder wearing than the chalked topcoat.

I recently kept to a budget and used Timber Protect 1L Satin Oil Based One Coat Clear Varnish on a coffee table I built. This oil-based coating was placed over a water-based paint wash effect and is still holding up perfectly six months later.

I couldn’t agree more about the EZness of a concrete slab for a shed floor but unless you have an income it does prove a bit pricey especially for a pensioner, any other CHEAPER alternatives?

Hi ya’all, I’ve just purchased a 3x3m garden shed and was wanting a concrete slab under it but as I’m only a poor pension I found the price a wee bit too much for me even if I did it all myself,then somebody suggested pavers or flagstones as the floor and another said make a pallet floor and anchor my shed in four corner concrete foundations? Well I’m easy and willing to give anything a go so long as it doesn’t break the bank,so PLEASE for a capable Pensioner Lady that hasn’t got small bucks let alone big bucks to play with what type of flooring do you think would be cheapest for me?

I think this whitewash works well with any white paint.... but I struggle with what to finish the wood with. I have found the chalk type products wax.. not great to prevent cup ring stains. Any suggestions?

I was unsatisfied with the size and weight of the woodworking mallet I had (left) so I decided to make a new one. I slightly underestimated how big it would end up. Nicely weighted though, the head is full of tiny lead fishing sinkers for extra oomph
