Hi @Ric,

The dye is the natural Merbau tannins in the timber. These tannins need to be removed from the timber prior to oiling. You can either wait 6-8 weeks for this process to naturally occur or use Intergrain UltraPrep Tannin And Oil Remover. Once the tannin removal process is complete, you should then use Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner to finish the job. You would then do a water droplet test, and if it is absorbed, you are ready to coat the deck with an oil.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

How to oil new Merbau decking?

Just laid Bunnings Merbau Decking - found dye from decking that had overnight due on it came onto my hands. Bought Bunnings, Feast Watson - Traditional Timber Oil (Merbau). Will I just paint over the dyed planks with the Timber Oil ? or will I need to remove the dye first ? Regards, Ric.
