These fantastic planter boxes made from recycled pallet timber were joined together and finished with a home-made stain.

The project

I built these planters using recycled pallet timber and finished off with a home-made stain.

It’s a really simple process. Fill a jar up with vinegar and put in steel wool #0000. Let it sit for up to a week and then take the steel wool out.

When the planter has been sanded and is ready to stain, mix a strong blend of coffee or tea in a bowl.

Using a brush, paint on the coffee first and let it dry. Then paint on the vinegar mix. In a few minutes, you will see your stain turn darker. You can either leave it how it is or finish off with a clear varnish to bring out the stain even more.

Just Starting Out

Love this.  I like raised garden beds, but am not fond of the galvanized iron beds.  But I do like the wood!
