How do I replace Pine borders for paved area?

I need to to replace the treated pine borders (replacing due to wood rot) around a paved area 2.4m x 1.8m. The problem I have is that the front 2.4m is level with the ground but i need need something there to hold pavers in. Any suggestions?

Hi @Student,

It would be really helpful if you could please upload a couple of photos of the area, as that will give a clearer idea of what you’re working with.

From your description, it sounds like the paved section meets another level surface, so you’ll need a neat way of keeping the pavers in place without creating a trip hazard. A common solution is to dig a shallow trench along that 2.4m edge and install a treated pine border so that it sits buried in the ground and is flush with the surface of both the pavers and the adjoining area. This way, it acts as a retaining edge to keep the pavers secure, while still giving you a smooth transition between spaces.

I've created the below rendering to illustrate.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't want to use treated pine.

Was there anything that you had in mind, @Student? I'm happy to make suggestions. Was it that you wanted to get away from the Pine/timber look, or more so, you didn't want something that could deteriorate? We have concrete sleepers, hardwood sleepers and polymer sleepers. We also offer a wide range of garden edging that you can use.
