started on the butcher block style benchtop.
Fantastic project, @hazesnow; I trust this will be a very impressive build! I can't wait to see the butcher block style benchtop when you're done.
Keep us updated, and many thanks for sharing.

test fitting of the benchtop, super happy with how it’s coming together ❤️
Great progress @hazesnow! I'm glad to see it's all coming together for you.
Are you going to coat the benchtop? If so, I'd love to hear about what options you've considered.
Many thanks for sharing.
We have decided to use Bondall Monocel Gold Marine grade varnish in gloss! we were contemplating Black Japan stain but they decided against it!
Great choice @hazesnow!
I can understand the trepidation associated with applying Black Japan. It would either turn out absolutely amazing or be the complete opposite of what you were looking for. It would be a big risk to take.
I can't wait to see it all done and in position. Please keep us updated.
Hello @hazesnow
That is a fantastic build I could not picture the final finish but now that the table is complete it is amazing. Gold marine grade varnish should give it a really good finish. In hindsight I would have suggested to try some black japan on a test panel or off cut from your build. But If your like me and often gamble on finishes then I would have voted for black japan. But like @MitchellMc said it could have come out good or it could have come out not so good. Looking forward to the finished product once you've finished painting it.
Cheers,
Red
@redracer01 @I’m a Bunnings team member too! I did try a sample brush out on an off cut of the same timber and let my son and his lady decide! So bondall marine varnish it is! I will keep you all posted on the final product!
Many thanks for your update, @hazesnow. You've made some incredible progress! What type of paint and application method did you use on the sides and draws? The level of finish you have achieved is immaculate.
I can't wait for your next instalment; please keep them coming.
@MitchellMc thanks heaps! I’ve just used British paints high gloss white and used a 100mm x 4mm microfibre roller and just laid it off gently after the initial coat, lightly sanded between coats and left to dry for a full day!
So for those who have been following this process it’s finally taken it’s place in it’s rightful home... I’m so pleased and proud of how it’s turned out! That’s me at the back!!
That looks phenomenal, @hazesnow! Congratulations on completing a magnificent project. Were there any more images of the front and a closeup of the top? I trust our members would be keen to see all the features of the finished island bench.
Many thanks for sharing this journey with us; it's been a thrilling ride. I very much look forward to seeing your next project.
Well done.
Thanks heaps it was a lot of fun and I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved for them. ❤️
This came out really nice! It looks really very sturdy. Fantastic build. Looking forward to your next project!
@redracer01 thanks so much it was a pleasure to make as well! It breaks down for ease of moving as it’s damned heavy! 😂
