I am about to tile our kitchen splash back and we are using very large tiles that are 1200mm x 600mm. They are porcelain tiles that have a fair bit of weight in them. It will be behind the stove top (induction) onto plasterboard, and laid horizontally only 1 tile high.
What would the recommended tile adhesive be in this situation?
I assume the adhesive product will determine if priming is required? On one of the areas a general paint primer is on the plasterboard.
Appreciate any suggestions on this!
Hi @NicoleB1,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
With tiles of this size and weight, it is really important to confirm with the manufacturers of the tile adhesive systems that we are using a suitable system to ensure the weight is supported correctly. For this reason, I'll have to reach out to our suppliers for their guidance.
In the past, the main questions they have asked me were the weight of each tile and the surface it is being applied to.
Can I ask you for a specific weight of the tile? Is there a weight per square metre listed on the tiles? Also, what is the thickness of the tile?
Are the tiles being applied to just plasterboard? Or is there any other material, such as fibre cement?
When you can provide some answers to these questions, I will reach out to our suppliers for their guidance on a suitable system.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Jacob
