Lightweight Four-Poster Frame for King Single Ensemble Bed

My daughter already has a king single ensemble bed with a base that has wooden legs and wheels. I’d like to build a lightweight frame above the bed to hang curtains, essentially creating a four-poster bed—but not as heavy-duty as the ones I’ve seen. Ideally, the frame could attach to the ensemble (I think), possibly using the wooden legs with wheels? Could I use dowels for this or square light weight timber?

Re: Lightweight Four-Poster Frame for King Single Ensemble Bed

Hello @kelbie

That's a fantastic project to be undertaking. I propose looking at using 42x19 timber moulding. It should be strong enough to hold light weight sheer curtains. It comes in several lengths so its best to measure how tall you want the four-poster frame to be. The timber frame can be joined together using standard 35mm timber screws. My best advice is to make sure to drill pilot holes to prevent splitting the ends of the timber pieces. The illustration is in plain timber but when painted white will blend in with the light colours of the room and the angled timber supports will not be so noticeable. Those supports are put in to prevent the long length of the timber from sagging.

The measurements are for reference only, please adjust them to your needs.
