Introduce yourself to the community

Welcome to your Workshop. It is great to have you as a member of the community. We encourage you to say hello and introduce yourself.

Please reply to this post and tell us a bit about yourself. Whatever information you feel comfortable sharing is fine.

You might like to tell us about your current D.I.Y. and garden projects, your work, your passions, your hobbies, your dreams, what you struggle with, what you hope to learn from this community, and/or your favourite ice cream flavour.

And for something truly revealing about yourself - tell us what you call a barbecued sausage served on a single piece of bread.

We look forward to your post and getting to know you. Thanks for joining the discussion.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community

Hey everyone!

Just signed up, looks like a pretty cool site! My name's Roy, I like to regard myself as being kinda handy, Dad was a builder so I learnt most things from him.

Dad started building his current house when I was 5, we lived in it half built for about 6 years so I got to my intro to most things to do with building then. Since then I've played with a lot of mechanical stuff; motorbikes, cars, go karts etc. I started my working life doing metal fab, then went into Cad drawing, did a couple of years as a project manager in landscape construction and now I'm part way through a landscape design diploma.

Got my own house now so there's always plenty of reno's to do, I'll be looking round here for ideas and inspo, hopefully I'll be able to return the favour to some of you.

Answer to @Jason it's called a bunnings snag.

Cheers, Roy

Re: New to the scene

Hey again Lawrence (@Lawrencet834)

With your background and skills, you might like to give @dgmcreative some ideas with what to do with this structure he has inherited - https://www.workshop.com.au/t5/Outdoor/Cabana-Shed-Outhouse-Bus-stop-Outdoor-dinning-What-would-you-...

It would be great to get your input.

Thanks,

Re: Dads Little Helper, Pallet Jnr

He's adorable @LePallet. It must have given you a shock when you realised he had a screw in his mouth!

One of my kids swallowed a 5-cent coin when they were a toddler. We were of course worried that it would get stuck somewhere, but the x-ray was pretty funny with a big circle in the middle of his tummy. Fortunately the coin came out of its own accord a couple of days later as the doctor had predicted...

Re: Introduce yourself to the community

Hi all

My name is Bob Taylor

I'm a new sign up and this is my first correspondance on this sight.

I look forward to being in contact with you all and exchanging ideas, thoughts and general info.

A little about myself, I retired a couple of years ago after 60 years at work, maybe better sooner than later.

During my work career I travelled to some 75 countries, I have experiane in most trades of building, my family being builders but specialised in electrics and elrtronics.

I have been finding retirement hard to handle, so have decided to make a more positive approach and do something with all my spare time.

First project is a rebuild of the front deck, followed by painting both inside and out. Got a couple of quotes still getting over the shock.

Looking forwared to getting my garage sorted as a workshop so I can commence.

Will keep in touch and send a few pictures of progress.

Cheers for now.

Bob Taylor.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community

Many thanks for introducing yourself @BobTaylor. We're rapt you could join us here on Workshop. We're sure you will get loads of helpful advice and inspiration for your projects from our community members. It sounds like you've got heaps of experience and knowledge that you can share, too.

You might like to hit the Start a discussion button and tell us about what you have planned for the front deck rebuild. Some photos might also help paint the picture. I'm sure community members would be happy to assist in any way they can.

Please let me know if you ever need a hand getting the most from the site. I'd also be happy to hear any feedback about how we can ensure Workshop is even more useful to you and your projects.

Thanks again,

Jason

Re: Introduce yourself to the community

@BobTaylor

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the community.

I'm sure you will find plenty of things to keep your spare time to a minimum, once you make a start and a fully functional workshop is definitely a good way to begin.

Your 75 country experiences must have been great, any photo's or stories??

I can only imagine the cost of your painting quote. I just painted out our new house inside and the paint itself was over $4,000 and with labour now at times up to 80% of the total works, I know I saved heaps. I was lucky in that not all the house was ready at the one time, so I was able to finish sections, so it didn't seem an insurmountable project. I'm 60 now and still doing well, so I'm glad I was able to achieve this task myself.

As for retirement, I live on a farm with my hubby and as such retirement seems to never come for farmers, they just continue for as long as they can doing what they love!!

Look forward to pics of your projects in future.

Cheers,

Barbara

Re: Introduce yourself to the community

Hello everyone,

I'm Walter (but prefer Wally), and I'm a moderator for the community.

My interests are gardening (I filled in my in-ground swimming pool to replace it with a functioning fruit and vegetable garden).

I'm not the best handyman around, and I have been known to cause a flood when changing washers :embarassed:

I'm pretty good at home automation, and electronics, even repairing the circuit boards in vacuum cleaners.

I use 3D printing to make useful objects for the house and home and garden- but don't ask me to do woodwork, painting or metalwork because that's a disaster.

I've only recently learned how to plaster a hole in a wall.

I call a single sausage on a slice of bread a really good snack if it's barbecued, covered in onions and tomato sauce :giggle:
