How to kill moss on corrugated roof?

There is a lot of moss on the lower areas of my corrugated roof. With a decent spray gun i think it would be relatively easy to apply an anti-moss solution, without having to get on the roof. Can you recommend the best product for this - one that slowly breaks down the moss - and, most importantly, a pressure spray that can squirt a decent way. It is easy to reach the areas with my garden hose so i figure there must be spray that can go as far? It isnt a particularly big area ....any tips appreciated, jan

Re: can you recommend a moss killing product and a spray gun for roof cleaning

Hello @jan54

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about a moss killing product.

Before you begin, please note that working on your roof is dangerous. If you are not trained to use roof harnesses and scaffolding, I propose in the interest of health and safety engaging the services of a professional to clean your roof.

However, if the area to be cleaned is just at the corner of the roof and you don't need to climb up to the roof itself, I suggest having a look at this guide - How to use ladders safely by @Adam_W

I propose using your pressure washer to wash away the majority of the moss buildup on the surface of your roof. Depending on the model that you have it is possible to purchase an extension piece that will increase the length of your gun. Once you have washed away the heavy build-up of moss, I suggest using 30 Seconds 5L Outdoor Cleaner Concentrate. Please remember that it is a concentrate and must be diluted in a Silvan 5L ECO Hand Sprayer. My best advice is to give the 30 seconds enough time to activate properly before washing the surface clean with your pressure washer.

For maintenance, I suggest spraying your roof with 30 Seconds 5L Spray And Walk Away Concentrate. The combination of selective surfactants is slow acting on moss, mould, mildew, lichen and algae and works over time reactivating for the first few rainfalls. No hosing or scrubbing necessary just spray it on and walk away.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: can you recommend a moss killing product and a spray gun for roof cleaning

hi Eric,

thanks for your speedy reply. just checking that the Silvan 5 L Eco Hand Sprayer that you recommend, have a spray that's at least 2 metres or so...ie a decent squirt to get to outlier areas of the moss. Also does the 30 seconds mixture work by slowly killing the moss - i had read that you didnt need to pressure wash the roof as -

it could possibly cause damage?

and the cleaner works over 12 months to break down the moss so that it slowly degrades and naturally falls from the roof...

Certainly not doubting your expertise ! but keen to double check these concerns with you...

cheers janet

Re: can you recommend a moss killing product and a spray gun for roof cleaning

Hello @jan54

It's perfectly ok to ask these questions. If you are having second thoughts about the pressure washer, I propose using just your garden hose so that there will be no chance of damaging the roof. The Silvan 5L ECO Hand Sprayer probably has a max reach of 600mm plus the length of your arm. There is the option of using the Silvan Extendable Spray Gun, but please double check to make sure it fits. Yes, the 30 seconds kills the moss, but as I mentioned its best to remove the buildup first so that the 30 seconds can get to the roots of the moss and not just the top layer.

The 30 Seconds 5L Spray And Walk Away Concentrate works over time to remove algae, moss, mould, mildew and lichen from exterior surfaces. This is what you would need to use to maintain your roof and control the growth of moss, mould and mildew.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
